PENSIONERS DAY 2017

Today is observed as Pensioners Day by lakhs of service pensioners in India. It was on this day, 35 years ago, on 17-12-1982, that the Supreme Court of India delivered its landmark judgement in DS Nakara Vs GOI case. (For details please see the article published in Pensioners Patrika November-December 2017).

On this day, we pay our respectful tributes to late Shri H D Shourie, Late Shri D S Nakara and Late Shri Rear Admiral Satyendra Singh. Mr. Nakara and Mr. Singh were pensioners, denied the benefits of liberalized pension scheme introduced in 1979. Court granted the benefits to them. Mr. H D Shourie was a man fighting for justice through legal remedy. He founded a society called COMMON CAUSE and started the Public Interest Litigation in our country. It is because they raised fundamental basic issues concerning Pension in their original application and the Affidavit in the case that the Supreme Court was compelled to make very significant observations on pension. Court declared that pensioners as a whole is a homogenous group and pensioners cannot be divided based on any cutoff date. Supreme Court declared that pension is neither a bounty nor an ex gratia benefit and that it is deferred wage.

Lakhs of old pensioners - central and state - are getting parity in pension because of this judgement.

BSNL retirees are covered by CCS Pension Rule 1972.Hence they should get pension revision granted to all other central service pensioners covered by same rule. BSNL pensioners cannot be discriminated or denied the benefit. AIBSNLPWA, therefore, demands pension revision with the same benefits as recommended by Seventh CPC. We shall continue our struggle for justice. Our branches observe this Day with high hopes and great respect to the pioneers. 

Message from DG on extra increment case

Regarding extra increment case PCCA, TN sought clarification from DoT on 20/11/17. He wants DoT approval for recovering the pension already granted for 68.8 from 1/1/2007. With that intention in mind, he has withheld arrears from 10/6/2013 to 31/12/2016 and ordered for granting 78.2 without Extra increment from 1/1/2017. Our CHQ has written a letter to Member (s) objecting the stand of PCCA, TN. Further, we are going to file a fresh case in CAT, Chennai. Our members are requested to wait for sometime.

Our member Sri.R .Jeyagandhi Retd DE lost his wife yesterday night. Let her soul rest in peace. Our heart felt condolances for the bereaved family and friends.

PENSIONERS' DAY CELEBRATION AT MADURAI 17-12-2017

The PENSIONERS DAY special GB Meeting held at Madurai on

17-12-2017 under president ship of Sri.M.Raveeendran,Dist.President. 

More than 250 members inclusive of lady pensioners attended.

The meeting commenced with the prayer by Smt. G.Kalyani.

 Sri.S.Veerasamy,ACS gave  welcome address. 

Sri.S.Sundaresan, Circle V.P.and  Sri. K.Chandran, Circle Org. Secy greeted the function.

Sri. G.R.Dharmarajan, Dist, Secy. read out the resolutions

    1.to change the name of the branch to AI BSNL PWA, Madurai Dist.Branch

from BSNL/DOT PENSIONERS ASSN. Madurai

and

     2.to request revision of pension  of  BSNL pensioners from

1-1-2017 as per 7th CPC fitment formula. The both resolutions were

unanimously passed by GB.

The Chief Guest invited by us Sri. T.S.Vittoban, Treasurer, CHQ

addressed elaborately on  the importance of  pensioners day

the settlement of last pension revision, 78.2  IDA Merger,                         Medical allowance and other issues to be settled.                                     He also opened the new banner of our branch

“AI BSNL PWA, Madurai.”

40 senior members aged 75 were honoured with a shawl & gift.

The function came to end with vote of thanks by Sri.K.Chandran.

DEMONSTARTION AT MADURAI IN SUPPORT OF THE STRIKING BSNL STAFF

  As per our CHQ decision the demonstration with 200 pensioners have conducted in front of Pr.G.M. Office, Madurai at 11.00 hrs.on 12-12-2017 under presidentship of Sri. S.Sundaresan , VP, TN Circle in support of strike by BSNL  Employees and Officers. Sri. G.R.Dharmarajan, DIist. Secy. raised the slogans with effective feedback and gave elaborate speech  on the demands of striking employees and officers of BSNL. S/Shri. S.Veerasamy, A.C.S., TN Circle, E.Chandrabose, S.Gopalakrishnan , S.Suriyan, and K.Sethuramalingam  have expressed their views about the importance of struggle.
